The trojan war, ransom of red chief, to sir with love etc,....

The other day me and my colleague baba were discussing some school level stuff....
baba? is it his nickname? yes, at work we nicknamed him "baba", because he gives all those philosophical fundaes..not those oldies type fundaes...but the most modern level ones....and too good and funny ones... :)
newayz... we were discussing the school level text book stuff...he and me were students of the state board of education and had read the same english text books through our 6-10th classes..
it really wondered me that he remembered most of the stories (lessons to be exact) that we had read for 5 years....
we read some really beautiful stories...that were so small..that would fit into 3-4 pages..but that had so much to gain from....
one story that I read in my 6th class was, "The Trojan war"...I think this book was the one that set me off onto all the novels and stories that I have ever read uptill now..
This book had so much influence on me that I had refused to watch the movie "Troy", because the plot of the movie differs from what I had read in the text book...considering I'm a big time fan of Brad Pitt's movies...

Those text books introduced me to a lot of new words...some of them were "coincidental", "circumstantial", "wild goose chase" , "yankee" and many more....
I've read a story about Christian Bernard, the first person to do a human heart transplant..."the ransom of red chief" by O.Henry....about the life of boy who had burnt his feet, but later went on to break olympic records in athletics.....about "the night the bed fell", a story which talks about the confusion created when the author fell off from his bed and the bed overturned.... about a man who had to clean a room thrice to get an admission to a prestigious colleage (a real story!).....about how to behave in a class room ...
the last one is from "To Sir with Love" by E.R.Braithwaite..... when I read the entire book later...it was awesome..but, i was so dumb to loose the book :(...
Though, I had read only abridged versions of most of these stories...they have a lot of message.. and so appropriate for the pupils of that particular age...
Though, I don't want to go back to that age.....as many ppl would want to ....I'd definitely want to read all those stories again and probably again..and still those stories would not go stale for me...

The magic is coming back!!

Harry potter..more than half the kids in the world would have heard, read, watched this character and the magical world, this character and his friends live in!!
Uptil now, as most of you know, a series of six most wonderful books have come out (thanks to the author, you know who)....now, the buzz about the seventh book has started!!
The buzz about who will die in the seventh book? will Harry conquer voldemort?
Or, will Harry die try killing voldemort?(that would be a very sad ending for such a wonderful series)..newayz..we wudn't know JK Rowling has up her sleeve until the next buk is released...
next buk??isn't it the last buk?..speculations abt the eight buk are also doing rounds on websites..but JK Rowling supposedly confirmed, the seventh buk wud be the last one in the series...
the buzz, intensified, when JK Rowling was tried to stop carrying the draft of the seventh book from carryin in a flight from america to england...
but, the authorities had to give in and allowed her to carry the book along with her..gud news for everybody..that nothing frm the buk leaked out..
and now the buzz increased again.
and guess what!!, the name of the book is out!!
supposedly, its the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".
now i've read all the six books twice.. i've had a couple of questions..will JK Rowling answer them in the seventh book?
my questions:
  • Why did Dumbledore smile when he learnt that Voldemort had used Harry's blood to regain his body ?
  • Who is R A B? Is he Dumbledore's brother?
  • Who is snape? What are his intentions?
  • Did Dumbledore actually die?

  • wait and see!

    My experiments with Linux!

Windows! The operating system that rules 95% of the PCs in the world!
Linux! The "spin-off" from UNIX based servers that was first developed for x86 platforms(in user's terms Intel architectures), a big thanks to Linus Trovalds!
For the last few years, though Linux is gaining much popularity, it hasn't really captured the market share for windows; When I said PCs I meant Home users. why? some of the very useful, reliable, easy to use softwares have been written for windows...
But, does that mean the software that is available on Linux is not reliable??No!
For some time, I've been considering to switch my PC O.S. from Windows to Linux.
It would be around 3 and half years now! I've had Linux installed on my machine for a long time now; but I had actually started using Linux when I had to do my final yr. project on Linux O.S and no where else!.So, I used Linux to fulfill my project requirements.
During that course of one year, I've understood that MOST of the software for Linux is free and available readily as RPMS; the traditional way being free source code and compile-run on the respective distro. of Linux and respective architecture.
Check out http://sourceforge.net/ for interesting open-source software!
At the time, I started using Linux, Redhat was one popular distribution; at that time, I didnot understand the concept of "support availability". So, I thought, I'd pick any distro. and just used Redhat; It turned out that Redhat was one of the few Linux distros for which support was available. I hadn't heard of SuSE at that time..
there is this one frnd of mine, who always pestered me to suggest which distro. to use, and always asked me to teach commands etc,.but he never actually kept up wiith that; the reason: he wanted to install all kinds of linux, windows OSes on his machine and ended up formatting his hard drive a lot of times...so i decided to stick with Redhat and learn wat was all available in there.

During the course of my project, I had to stick around with Linux a lot of time, which left me a lil' bored as I had very less to do other than prjt on my Linux ...games...I wasn't and 'm not interested...
so i thought, how about playin some music and some videos...i was already a big fan of F.R.I.E.N.D.S by that time! That is when I heard about xmms, an opensource mp3 player for linux; but Redhat had issues with xmms in licensing and though xmms is installed, i couldn't use it :( ..
then i looked for winamp and realplayer distributions for linux, they were available, but highly restricted;winamp played only mp3, realplayer (http://www.real.com/linux/ ) played only 'rm' and 'mp3'; I wanted someplayer which played 'wma', 'wav' and most importantly divx compressed videos too! Then I met the 'Xine' player.. I was collecting Linux software from people who were sorta interested in Linux stuff! and one of them turned out to have this Xine player which played out a lot of file types, but then there was problem with playlists, video files/formats etc,. Then I met the 'MPlayer' and the 'GMPlayer' (GUI version of MPlayer), which turned out to awesome!
Check out http://rpm.pbone.net/ to find out RPMs that matter to you!
I had some fun, experimenting with my Redhat and configuring network and using the media players, but then I wasn't very serious with using Linux as my "favourite" desktop, because some features in windows beat the crap out of identical features in Linux! (Or I felt so....)
One such thing was the SMB protocol support which was at that time(I donno about now), not by default supported by the Operating System (much unlike Windows); one had to download the samba client and samba server;but I thought, "What the heck?", I'll try to make it work..but never could :(
But, that was something VERY VERY important in college to be able to sync up with other people, there was this option of FTP or SCP(about which I knew only when I joined the company)...but no one else uses those features!
So, as soon as my prjt. work is finished, I moved back to windows for better reasons!
After my final yr. I had to give away my PC to my bro. for his project purposes, I requested him to retain my partitions (including the Linux partition); he remained good and didnot mess with the filesystem.
This one year, I have had the oppurtunity to work with not only Linux, but many other UNIX platforms and architectures...In anycase, I have been a lil' bit biased towards Linux,
In my company, I learnt about 'SuSE', another Linux distro(http://www.novell.com/linux/), developed and supported by Novell. I almost immediately felt a liking for this new distro.
There are some features in SuSE that can kick Redhat's butt, in terms of desktop usage.
It took me sometime to understand the nuanses of SuSE, but once I got the hang of it, I could not resist installing SuSE on my desktop; much against my bro.'s protests, I removed Redhat and installed SuSE; and in turn seriously screwed up! I did not properly choose the partitions (the comment, which I vehemently oppose) and ended loosing a lot of my selected collection of songs, videos and movies! :( :( ...that is a completely different story...I don't want to get into the details of it now...

Any way, I got SuSE onto my machine, installed a few softwares....like Firefox, JDK, mplayer...etc,. As I said, I lost some of my stuff during the installation of SuSE, it turns out , I lost the RPM, that I used to install GMPlayer on Redhat...So, in search of the RPM, I found something, but had some many dependencies..that frustrated me a lot. Finally, after satsifying some dependencies, which I thought were logical, I did a force install and somehow, it worked !! Now, I play many formats of songs, videos etc,. :).
To my surprise, SuSE supported NTFS file systems and I was amazed when I inserted a USB stick and it was immediately recognised! The same didnot happen with an iPod though :(
But, yes, for some operations, I need to switch back to windows, which I'm trying avoid as much as I can! One such thing for example, is iTunes, which is available only for Windows and MAC. I read somewhere about a software, that converts windows like instructions into Linux instructions and make many a windows softwares (including some highly deemed games) work on Linux; but guess what? Its not freeware :(
    Check http://www.codeweavers.com/site/products/
sigh! I thought, something like that would be a freeware..anyway..probably in this week i'll try this out, so to say, a trial version in Windows parlance!
right now, I'm planning to shift my desktop (again, much against my bro.'s protests) to Linux; daily morning, I boot into Linux, browse the web, play some music, etc.
I'm planning to use openoffice for my office "type" work! I donot know, how much successfull I would be, but what the hell, its worth a try, isn't it?? and a different experience too!!
Remember ?? "Change is the only constant thing in this world!"

P.S: Actually, I started out this post to compare the features available in windows and Linux, in terms of desktop usage, but somehow ended up describing my journey through the Linux world!

    LRMB

LRMB aka., Lage Raho Munna Bhai..., the 2nd innings for the blockbuster 'Munn Bhai M.B.B.S',
the movie that is re-generating the ripples that rocked the ppl. from the Gandhian era...
The movie that preaches Gandhigiri (will define this term shortly). Last sunday, I went to wacth this movie; whether this movies delivers a message or not but, it is definitely a two and half an hour non-stop entertainer.
It so happened that my bro. and his frnz wanted to visit some concert by a band 'Gel'(or something that sounds like Gel), and they wen to Kachiguda to get the tickets for the concert. They got the tickets on saturday and the concert was on sunday.
They paid 150 bucks (in India rupees), for each ticket and assumed that the concert would take place in NALSAR city campus (a law college in Hyderbad). Something they didnot know was that the NALSAR univ. campus was some 30 kms (appox.) frm Hyderabad city. The next day, my bro and his frnz got ready and decided to leave for the concert; playfully one 'em turned around the concert ticket and noticed that some kinda map was provided to reach the place...they were bewildered and checked the ticket again only to find that the concert was happening univ. campus; they thought, okay, wat the heck, we'll have a gud ride, but the downpour didnot allow them..
so they decided, y not watch a movie and there was a gud movie being screened close where we live...the movie was LRMB. I simply called up my bro. to check if he reached the concert yet.. i jumped up with joy when he said, they cancelled the plans to go to the concert;instead, decided to watch LRMB, and tickets were available! (who woudn't jump?)..
I called up my another gud friend (whose name also happens to be Ravindra !) to see if he could join us..but, alas, he had other plans..newayz, i called up my bro. and got me a ticket reserved for two-n-half hours of non-stop fun 'n' entertainment!
The movie was to be screened at 6:45 p.m and it was already 6:00 p.m, but no worries, the movie hall was like only 10 mins frm my place..so, i set out frm my home at 6:20 and reached there at 6:30 p.m , met my bro and entered the movie hall......
The first 20-30 mins, it was like a joke after a joke....ppl all over the hall were laughing, clapping and jumping out of their seats( a bit over exaggerated, but watever)...
The next part of the movie was also fun ,only that the frequency of the comic parts has come down, from a joke every sec. to a joke for every 15 secs... :D
For me, it was like, there definitely is pure comedy out of F.R.I.E.N.D.S !! (look for the below posts to see how big a fan of F.R.I.E.N.D.S I am).
I wouldn't describe the movie a lot here, b'coz it is worth watching and all fun-movie lovers must and should watch it..
There were some sentimental scenes (infact many), but definitely NOT the "typical bollywood senti."..it was different and it was definitely fun!
This movie coins the term Gandigiri aka,. "Following the principles defined by Gandhi"( aka., the father of the nation!)
The Delhi govt. an the AP govt. have given full tax exemption for the screening of the movie in the respective states.
I know that the movie preaches Gandhigiri, but, if it were upto me, I'd suggest tax exemption for the pure, un-adulterated comedy!
The latest newz sayz that the movie is being sent as an entry for the Oscars in the 'Best foriegn movie' category (independently by the director, ofcourse, RDB being the official entry). Letz wait 'n' c...I'm not sure, if this movie suits the Oscars, but it is the 'one of its kind' movie...
    Lage Raho Munna bhai !

    P.S:
One of my frnz suggested that I use too much '...'s in my posts...I too thought my posts look a bit ugly with all the '...'s, So I tried to cut 'em down to make this post (look 'n' sound) beautiful!

    Outing @ PTG

At our company, we call ourselves i.e our team, 'The PTG'; 'PTG' stands for 'Platform Technologies Group'.
We specialise in various platforms/architectures.....Last thursday 7th Sep...our team went out to Placida, http://placida.in ... a resort in the outskirts of Hyderabad..Such going out and celebrating events are called 'outings' in corporate...donno why...
For the last few days..we had been planning to go out and celebrate the occassions that we had a few successful project deliviries. :)...thx to the members of the team and team leads...
So, we decided the date of outing to be 7th sep..and set out for Placida at around 2 p.m after our lunch...
we figured that Placida being very close to Madhapur..we would use our own vehicles rather than hire a bus or cars...(for an Indica we were being charged Rs.700/- :o )
Any way,we had enough bikes and two cars....so we set out for the ride....
I paired up with Baba ....but we didnot know the route ....Murali told us to take the Gachibowli road ....and so we did....all along the way there were enuf sign boards for Placida..so didnot have much of a problem there...
The ride was a bit smoother..as the Gachibowli road is gud one type...but suddenly Baba's bike started coughing ;) ....and all of a sudden we were out of petrol.... :( ..I could see Chary at a stone's throw...but shouting didnot help...so I called him on his mobile and asked him to turn around....
Chary and me went back and got a litre petrol for Baba's bike...and the journey resumed...the road after the Gachibowli road is kutcha road up to some distance...and then a pucca road then again a kutcha road....
All in all it would be a 25 min ride without any obstancles like...running out of petrol ;) ...
Finally..we reached Placida..the sky was already cloudy..and ppl were already playing 'pseudo-volleyball' and the organisers Srikanth, Prasanth ,Dileep & Santosh were already arranging for the games that would be played all along our 'outing'....
It had been around 8 months..that I had played cricket and I was very eager to play cricket.....but, then there were the games from Srikanth...
The first game was to empty a bucket full of water and fill up another bucket that was put at some distance in one minute......my team was Sankar, Hema,Harsha....and me ofcourse.. :D...
We had a strategy that two ppl would fill in and empty the glasses at each ends , respectively.....and others would stand in a line to pass the glasses....then after 20 secs. or so..we changed the strategy..and we started to run, collect the empty the glasses...Thanks to Hema..she was always ready with a filled up glass....and guess wat we filled the bucket to the utmost (compared to the other two groups)...and won...Thanks to Sankar who changed the strategy..in a fraction of a sec....
Next game was each of us would receive a chit with 3 names in it... the highlighted name would be ur name for the next few minutes...and u have to find the other two persons whose pesudo-names should be what I have in my chit.....and the game started.........and ppl were screaming like hell for their partners... :D...alas..but my team lost.... :(...
    that was a fun game...
Next it was unianimously decided that we would play cricet....by that time it was already drizzling.......the teams were decided..Subu and Sankar were the two captains......Subu chose me .....we won the toss and we decided to bat....Sagar opened the bat with some gud shots...but was run out ....I batted 2nd down with a few 'not bad' shots and was run out...the others had put up a decent fight and we scored 33...all along we had played in a heavy down pour :D ....
the other team...led by Sankar came down to bat...I bowled the first over...got a wicket..gr8 catch by Sagar....and conceded only 2 runs :D ...I am gud bowler, u know..the batsmen from the other team also put up a decent fight ..but could not finish the chase in limited overs and my team won !!......Sankar's team and my team..congratulated each other and patted each other's backs for a very gud show of sportsman ship....and all along as I had said earlier..we were playing in a heavy down pour...it was one of my dreams....to play cricket in a heavy rain on a concrete pitch...with this match..half my dream came true.....the pitch wasn't concrete ;) ....
The highlight of both the innings' was Mrs. Neha... who took up the humongous task of 'umpiring' :p
All the time..she was in confusion whether to declare a ball a wide or not....or to give a run out or not... ;) ....ppl had to refer to the 'third umpires' (there were ppl from some other company there who also were on their outing )....She was definitely the highlight of the match...Thanks Neha ji.... :p

Next we had high-tea...(pakodas tea/coffee) relaxed for a few minutes...
and we broke up into ppl who wanted to play volley ball and ppl who wanted to play TT..I could have choosen to play volley ball...but I thought..why not play TT..
Played a few games of TT and then played caroms..after probably 3-4 years.. I used to play a game or two in college...but I really suck at caroms ;) :P
and then again I played TT ..and continuously played more than 15 matches...and was exhausted...
meanwhile others who knew swimming jumped into the pool...and played 'water polo' and ..frishbee in the pool....
and then Srikanth's games started..tug of war...and the other game was to
stick a paper on each other's backs and write stuff about each other...gud stuff at ur back and bad stuff on ur front ..was the motto of the game....

After the games and a wonderful and motivating speech from our manager, Manmohan...we had a delicious lunch.....and set out back to our homes...
It was wonderful day and I enjoyed it a lot...Thanks to Srikanth for all those games...to Subu, Sankar and Manmohan our manager who arranged for the outing...

    Me 'n' Frnz @ Bawarchi

It had been quite some time that had been posting to my blog...Nothing xciting happening here :(
But...smthin happnd last week :) One of my gud frnz from college Suresh who works for CTS has moved from the Chennai office to Hyd office on a prjt change.....
CTS has offices in the same IT park in which my company has offices.
Earlier my team and me used to work in the Capella block and CTS' office was just above us.
But, b'coz of some internal changes and our entire team had moved from Capella block to the Orion block.
Even CTS has an office in the Orion block...I hoped Suresh would be located in the Orion block too ...But no!! He had to be located in the Capella block :(
So, we normally i.e when Suresh decides to grace the office with his visit ;) meet up for lunch..discuss a lot of things...the things that happened in his life @ chennai...the things that happened to me @ Hyd....His love life...and ofcourse girls....etc,.
Suresh had come...but until last saturday we hadn't met up with our other college mates who r livin in Hyd...Potti Venki and Somu....
So, we thought...okay..we should meet up on Saturday for lunch...we were discussing the place to meet up...Suresh said he would bring "ghoda" 's bike, it the bike was free...but it turned out 'ghoda' had to go to office :(....
I discussed with Venki and decided that we would meet up at Bawarchi @ RTC X Roads for lunch...Suresh had called up Somu and informed him abt the get-together..The choice for Bawarchi was maded between Bawarchi and Some other Cafe (I don't remember the name)
So, I had called up Venki on Sunday @ around 11 a.m. and informed him that me and Sureh would be there @ Bawarchi @ 2:00 p.m.
But, it seemed Venki interpreted me wrong and already was having lunch !!!
So, I told Suresh to have something @ his room and then we would visit Venki's house first and then go to Bawarchi...We called up Somu and informed him abt the change of plans...
But Somu was busy too!! He was shopping for his colleague's marriage...
So, Somu said he would directly come to Bawarchi in the evening. So, it was decided that we would go to Bawarchi in the evening.

So, I went to Hyderabad Central to pick up Suresh, so that we could go to Venki's house 2gether... I called Suresh and informed him that I was waiting @ Central and Suresh told me that he would be there in around 10 mins...So, I thought why wait outside...go inside and have some window shopping :D.
So, I went to the ground floor and first floor and had some itonic ;) :D and did some windows shopping...
Suresh was there and we took a bus to Koti and from there an auto 2 Venki's house...Venki was asleep by the time we reached his house..we woke him up ,had some snacks and juice ...thanks to Venki's mother...and then again fell into discussion about Suresh , his girlfriends and another college mate O.P and O.P's escapades ;) in chennai....
Then we browsed the net for some time...and then at around 5:00 p.m, we set out for Bawarchi...and informed Somu to be at Bawarchi by 6:00 p.m.
We reached Bawarchi by an auto and tried to take a table in the A.C. section ...but alas!! the A.C section was closed ..donno why :(...
So, we went to the top floor...it was not bad at all....We didnot want to sit and just talk with our tummies rumbling..so ordered a water bottle(very much required), Veg manchuria and aloo 65..we all decided to have vegetarian that day...I and Venki could have tried some non-veg if Suresh had non-veg...but, it being a Saturday..Suresh would have only vegetarian stuff...
By the time we were done with manchuria and almost done with aloo65..Somu was waiting downstairs...Suresh picked him up and gave a 'red carpet' welcome ;) :P
Then we ordered Veg Biryani..cold drinks and had long chat about who all got married from our college..and it was surprising to know that two people from our college got married in the court!!! Then we started discussing about when each of us would get married.....
The biryani wasn't that gud..but passable...and we finished it and set out for a stroll....to digest the biryani :D...we walked around for sometime and decided to meet up th next week again to watch Bommarillu P.S. the songs from the movie r gud...
Hopefully, I'll watch Bommarillu with my frnz this sunday...
All in all it was sorta get-together for us and we njoyed a lot pulling each other's legs ;)
One sad thing was none of us had a cam :(..
next time..i'll try to put up some pics..........

    F.R.I.E.N.D.S

For the last 5-6 months, I've been hearing about job frustrations and ppl not likin their jobs..I'm sorta of sick of hearin it. Everyday, someone or the other complains about his job...
Now Now, don't u go thinkin that I'm (or not) judgin those ppl...but I think I've had enuf of hearin it..(I may continue 2 heat it neway, though)....

But, for the last 2 years I've had a very bright, cheerful, and all time effective medicine that wud clear all my frustrations in a 'jiffy' , to borrow a word from P.G. Wodehouse..makes me laugh, feel happy and energetic again...
That is F.R.I.E.N.D.S...the sitcom that the rocked not only the ppl of the United States but ppl all over the world for 10 years ...and still continues to ...even after it finished its last season last year....
I'm always thankful to my college mates and friends...Amit Sharma and Anil P for introducin me to this wonderful world of 6 friends who always crack up jokes and share everything wid each other.. It is so wonderful, so funny , so catchy, so ...I donno..I'm not very gud wid adjectives...
that one can seriously get addicted 2 it...
F.R.I.E.N.D.S deciphers a small, beautiful world of six very different ppl who live in Newyork... who befriend each other in very different circumstances and get along makin each other and the audience laugh all the way...
I started collectin F.R.I.E.N.D.S as soon as I realised how funny the episodes are..Until the last month I had all the episodes, almost every 'behind the screens' and bloopers..

Though I had backed up most of the gud stuff ..some episodes were left behind on my disk....
Then I bought myself a brand new 120GB disk to backup the rest of the stuff and moved the episodes from my old disk to the new disk....
But, me, a mischievous little idiot messed up my Linux partition on my PC and in a hurry had deleted my boot partitions!!!
Now, somehow my original boot drive was not being recognised and I had not created any primary partitions on my new disk....So I had 2 format my new disk 2 create new partitions..and in turn lost "some" gud stuff.....
When I was still at college.. I used 2 watch 10-15 episodes back 2 back (when I had so much time, ofcourse)..., but these days, I don't have enuf time 2 watch even T.V!! except durin the weeknds...
But, weeknds..first of all , I donot feel (the need) to take a bath...and once I settle down infront of my computer or the T.V..it takes a lot to move my a** back again...

But, still whenever I feel weak or bored, I turn to F.R.I.E.N.D.S for cheerin me up again.....
It so happened that I had never ever watched all the episodes in the right order; it was always a few episodes from one season, another few from the other season and so on....and I still could almost always get the joke...and that seemed to me the right way of njoyin the 'stuff'....not that story is not important...but I still think the comedy matters more than the story(some might argue, there is no comedy, if there is no story..but I don't care abt 'em)....

A little abt F.R.I.E.N.DS.....As I said earlier, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is abt a gang of 6 ppl who met each befriend each other in very different circumstances...two of them go out 'n' then break up and then get married 'n' brk up again and the cycle sorta continues..
2 of the other 4 fall in love wid each other and get married...
the other 2 are the 2 of the most innocent 'n' funniest ppl I've ever seen....in a wierd way though...
each episode runs for abt half-an-hour,but in the times of need of some peace..I think watchin F.R.I.E.N.D.S would be time well spent...
Believe me, I had watched almost every episode..almost 10 times each and never ever felt bored...
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is one of the best things tht happnd 2 me and I'll definitely continue 2 njoy it all the way as long as I can...

and I'll be startin of my 're-collection' of the lost episodes and then I'll be a rich man again!!

    the sports season.....

The last one month...it was one hell of a sports season....
What wid the world cup, the wimbledon...and how many had noticed that Indian had won a series on West Indian soil after 35 years???
The day India won the series, all the talk was about football (don't remember which one, crucial match though)...and no one talked about Indian cricket...
The talk is that during the WestIndies tour, even cricketers were not interested in cricket...and they had preferred to watch the world cup rather than playing cricket..
Now, whatz over is over and India has won a series in West Indies after 35 years...thatz a +ve sign for the Indian cricket team....
    Wimbledon...the 2 stars...Nadal and Federer......
Is there any one else who could challenge these guyz in Tennis, apart from each other though...???
Looks like for the next few years...we would see Nadal always defeating Federer in the French Open finals and Federer winning the Wimbledon against Nadal in the Wimbledon finals..
This cycle can go on for years....

    Football, football, football , football.............................

If some football freak ;) rates my knowledge in football, my score would be "19 , with 10 being the dumbest ever in football knowledge"....a phrase borrowed from F.R.I.E.N.D.S , episode 701 "TOW the Monica's thunder". Yes, I'm a F.R.I.E.N.D.S freak....
Okay, okay, we shall not waver away from the current topic - football.
I've never been a follower of football until this world cup happened..except that I heard of 'Pele' as the gr8est football player ever; Deigo Maradona for his well published history ; Davor Suker for his golden boot in 1998(?) because I had answered a quiz question and Beckham... I just heard his name a lot..
Isn't it quite surprising that I donot know atleast, any of the Brazil's gr8 players, considering they are one of the best teams in the world ?!!
For the last few days, 3 of my colleagues have been discussing football all the time, when they were not discussing the team's strategy. I normally go to lunch with two of these ppl everyday and for the first few days, it was just blah blah to me...
But of late, I had been interested in the game and tried to follow the scores of the maches that happened; though most of the time, I forget either to follow the score or forget about football altogether :D
The 3 colleagues I mentioned have started a guessing game, where they would guess the scores of the matches that would happen that current day and calculate points based on the actual scores.
Of these 3 ppl, one of them follows almost all kinds of football matches including those of women!!One, followed only international matches like the worldcup 'n' eurocup, but surprisingly has a very gud knowledge of the game, players and strategies; the last one definitely has less knowledge than the other two.
But, somehow, the last mentioned person seemed to be leading with the highest score in the guessing game!! Is it really 'only' guess work?? Or 'calculated' guess work.??
'm sorry that I'll not be mentioning any names in this post...
But all those discussions and the guessing game had imparted me with some knowledge about th e game and revived my interests in the sports a little..my interests in the sports including cricked had dwindled in the last few years and much in the last year with me playing no cricket at all!!!
Now that I've heard all the discussions, I know a few more names, Lampard, chevchenko, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Scolari(a coach though), Kakka,Rooney, Zidane and something called an 'offside'('m pretty sure I got atleast one name wrong). Now that the world cup is halfway thru, I'll atleast try to follow up with the happening matches and the scores of each match; may be even try to predict the scores of a few matches !! :D
and I hope that by the nxt world cup, I'll be a knowledgeable person in football.
Can someone tell me how often does this world cup happen? :-?
